Red Rock Corridor Commission wants your input on transportation issues in the Red Rock
Corridor.
THE RED ROCK CORRIDOR
COMMISSION INVITES YOU TO AN OPEN HOUSE
The
Red Rock Corridor Commission is hosting a series of public open houses to
present results from a recent study on commuter rail and other transit
alternatives in the corridor. Long-term plans for implementing commuter
rail in the Corridor are underway, as well as short-term plans for building
a strong ridership base through expanding bus service, increasing bus
frequency and providing more park and ride facilities.

60 members of the public attended the first open houses of the
Alternatives Analysis-Scoping Study. They were treated to a short
presentation along with an overview of the various transportation modes
that will be evaluated in the Red Rock Corridor. Attendees
highlighted many issues including growing congestion, the need to provide
transportation options, and the need to connect Red Rock into a regional
transit system.

Open houses provide a forum for residents and interested
parties to provide input and learn about progress and the issues of commuter rail
planning.
Over 40 citizens attended the Red Rock Corridor's
first open house that was held on April 6
at the Cottage Grove City Hall.
The second open house
was held on June
12 at the St. Paul Union Depot (SPUD). About 150 attended this open house
that included presentation by Minnesota State Transportation Commissioner, and
Commissioner Myra Peterson, Chair of the Red Rock Corridor Commission.

Commuter
Rail Feasibility Study Workshops
Workshops were
conducted in each of the communities where a station location was proposed. The purpose of
the workshops was to provide each community with an opportunity to discuss the issues
relating to the proposed stations and to identify opportunities to maximize the benefits
of transit service in the Red Rock Corridor.

Feasibility Study Land Use Forum
May 3, 2000
A land use forum was held on May 3 at the St.
Paul Park City Hall. The purpose of the forum was educational and served as a precursor to
station area planning workshops. Over 50 citizens, elected officials, representatives from
cities/counties, and public agencies provided input on a range of topics. The four hour
forum featured presentations by project consultants and developers about how to implement
transit-supportive land use and station area plans.
